Happy Earth Day!

Celebrating Earth Day

Earth Day. It’s been around almost as long as I have been alive and the messages this year are perhaps more pressing and more urgent than ever before. But for me, among the worry, is also hope. The arguments against climate change may finally be quieting, replaced instead by fractious debates about HOW we are going to address the climate crisis. It feels like the tide has shifted away from turning a blind eye to the problem, to finding solutions. We aren’t by any means out of the woods…but I do feel a wave of change starting to swell.

So, with Fred Rogers’ famous quote in my mind “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping,” today, I am choosing to look for and celebrate the helpers.

There is no one single solution that is going to resolve the climate crisis, no quick fix. But by looking around and seeing all the people that are working hard, both individually and collectively, towards finding solutions…today, for Earth Day, I am choosing HOPE.
